It seems that confusion about why they are in the Statehouse is never ending. Republicans refuse to listen to their own constituents about almost everything! A recent poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, a company used by Republicans, has shown that the majority of Kansans support expansion of KanCare (Medicaid).
The poll showed that 68% of registered voters, 51% of likely Republican primary voters and 83% of small business owners favored expanding Medicaid. Kansas Republican leadership call the poll misleading, saying that expansion would bankrupt the state, keep people off the rolls in favor of “able bodied working people” and drive taxes higher.
During a conversation I had with Carrie Barth (R) 5th district, she echoed the Republican false claims and even stated that people would quit their jobs to qualify for Medicaid. She showed no support for even a committee hearing on the topic.
I support expanding KanCare (Medicaid). If expanded, over 150 thousand Kansans would be able to apply for healthcare coverage that they currently do not receive from employers and can not afford on the insurance exchange. Some of these folks are your neighbors. Hard working folks with low-income jobs.
As shown in the poll, Kansans are in favor, Republican leadership is the Scrooge in the story.
