Some times you can tell a lot about a person by their actions. As I read the local news on Statehouse activity mid way through he session, it is hard not to see the small minded, hardhearted, petty displays put on by our Republican neighbors. No fewer than 3 different cruel bills, to single out children, attack and punish them for being different. Bills to further cruelly restrict and hinder a woman’s access to health care. Bills to cruelly punish those who have less, just because they can’t fight back.
I still hold hope in my soul that Kansans are not that mean and cruel. That Kansans believe in community, and taking care of each other. That Kansans love their children and support them. I hope that Kansans look in the mirror each day and say “there but by grace go I”.
It is time for a change in the legislature. It is time for the cruelty to end. It’s time for a return of Kansas Values.
